Avert Lay-offs

Posted on October 18, 2018January 26, 2019 by kcdee

Avert Lay-offs with Incumbent Worker Training

An incumbent worker is an individual (or group of individuals) who is already employed by a company in a key sector – Agriculture, Healthcare, Information Techonologies, Manufacturing, Transportation/ Distribution/Logistics – and locally defined sectors that include Finance and Insurance, Hospitality, Retail, and Green Industries. Incumbent workers are individuals who are receiving upgraded skills training: 1) to increase his or her skills in an occupation in which the individual is already an employee; or 2) to prepare the worker for entry into a new occupation within the targeted workforce (i.e., the workforce of the participating employer or group of employers).

Our goal is to provide resources for employers to train current workers in hopes of increasing the productivity and growth of their company.

KCDEE has training dollars available – up to $15,000 per employer for costs associated with training expenses or related certifications.

Employers may choose the type of training and trainer that suits their needs as long as the training will avert layoffs, re-locations or closings. The training should promote skills upgrades in key sector occupations as listed above and represesnt a significant skills upgrade for employees.

OJT

Posted on October 18, 2018January 26, 2019 by kcdee

On-the-Job Training – OJT

OJT is training by an employer that is provided to a paid participant while engaged in productive work in a job that
a) provides knowledge or skills essential to the full and adequate performance of the job;
b) provides reimbursement to the employer of up to 50 percent of the wage rate of the participant, for the extraordinary costs of providing the training and additional supervision related to the training; and
c) is limited in duration as appropriate to the occupation for which the participant is being trained, taking into account the content of the training, the prior work experience of the participant, and the service strategy of the participant, as appropriate.

Are you are a Kane, Kendall or DeKalb employer that needs assistance in recruiting the best employees? An On-the-Job Training (OJT) model could give you the opportunity to train employees your way. If you are interested in learning about ways you can receive free assistance and a possible wage subsidy to defray the cost associated with training a new employee, please contact Diane Cooper at 630-966-1435 x40077, or e-mail at OJT Info

KCDEE provides SGA55 services to ready the workforce for employment through federally-funded programs under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA). WIA provides the framework for a unique national workforce preparation and employment system designed to meet both the needs of the nation’s businesses and the needs of job seekers and those who want to further their careers. The most important aspect of the Act is its focus on meeting the needs of businesses for skilled workers and the training, education, and employment needs of individuals.

Job Seeker Services – we offer services that include job search, employment retention activities, assessment, counseling, basic education skills development, and vocational training in a wide range of approved occupational growth areas.

Youth Services – Our youth representatives focus their efforts on youth between the ages of 14 and 21. The youth we serve have been identified as needing an extra push to help them complete high school to receive a diploma, obtain a GED, or get a job.

Funding Sources – The majority of services provided by KCDEE are funded by the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA). Additional services are provided through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Act.

Partners – As a partner in the Illinois WorkNet system, we work SGA55 cooperatively with many local and state agencies to ensure our clients are ready to meet the challenges of finding meaningful and self-sustaining employment.

Locations – Services are offered at 4 locations in DeKalb, Kane and Kendall counties.

Jobs at KCDEE – Our staff are Kane County employees. Open positions can be found on the Kane County web site or by linking to our Jobs at KCDEE page.
